2008, July - UNMADE PART OF PELICAN ROAD HEAVILY POT-HOLED > On a recent visit to the Pelican Road area, I noticed how deep and numerous the pot-holes are at present on the unmade part of the road and probably the worst state I have noticed over the years. Thanks to a housing development at what became Verica Gardens further down the road, a good portion of the road was made up by the builders to a good standard as part of the planning permission. I am not aware of any plans to have the rest of the road made up and we may have to negotiate that stretch with care when driving along, for some time to come. Raymond West
2008, June - PELICAN PUB FLOODED AGAIN > `Rainwater began seeping inside The Pelican Inn in Silchester Road, Pamber Heath on Tuesday morning, following heavy overnight downpours.' The pub had flooded twice previously in the last year but the long-awaited improvements to drainage, completed by Hampshire County Council in the form of another soakaway, did not work and deemed a waste of money. Landlord Dan Saunders is distraught but in consultation with the council about further options to resolve this frustrating situation. Courtesy of Basingstoke Gazette
2008, May - NAMING OF THE DEVELOPMENT ON BAILEY'S FORMER LAND > It was noticed recently that after completion of the first phase of the development of homes on the former site of Evelyn Bailey's cottage and garden in Pamber Heath Road, the new access road has been named as Middle Close. A final dwelling has recently been started bordering Pamber Heath Road by Meadham Builders and probably will be completed by the end of the summer. Raymond West
